The origins of CITEGO...

CITEGO is an independent association founded in 2015. However, it is the legacy of a long history, a very slow gestation within the Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation for Human Progress (FPH), which Pierre Calame, the president of CITEGO, directed for more than thirty years. The attached summary and the very detailed chronicle of the FPH between 1980 and 2014 provide an insight into how the ideas and methods developed within the FPH led, among many other initiatives, to the creation of this bank of experiences, ‘Cities, territories, governance’.

You will find the three insights that founded it:

  • the idea that in the 21st century, ‘territories’ – cities and living areas – would be major players in governance and the economy, which was not obvious at a time when everyone was talking about globalisation;
  • the idea that the most useful knowledge for action came from action itself, giving credibility to the exchange of experiences;
  • the idea that traditional indexing tools did not reflect the ‘systemic’ nature of the transition to be undertaken, which we called ‘the emergence of second modernity’, leading us to invent the relational atlas that indexes all documents on www.citego.org.
