Incentives and accompanying measures to encourage the use of sustainable modes of transport
March 2024
The State is implementing several forms of support to encourage and guide local authorities in the introduction of sustainable transport. Incentives and appropriate support encourage the choice and implementation of sustainable transport for local authorities, businesses and users alike.
Technical support
The government offers technical support to local authorities to help them plan and implement their sustainable mobility projects. This support can take various forms:
-
Expertise and advice: The State provides experts in the field of sustainable mobility to advise local authorities on technical aspects such as urban planning, the planning of public transport networks, the design of cycling infrastructures, etc. These experts can provide their expertise in the planning and implementation of sustainable mobility projects. These experts can provide their expertise in carrying out studies, choosing appropriate solutions and implementing best practice.
-
Resources and tools: The government provides local authorities with resources and tools to help them with their sustainable mobility projects. These may include methodological guides, technical manuals, best practice guidelines, planning models or evaluation software. These resources facilitate the implementation of coherent and effective projects.
-
Training and awareness-raising: The State organises training and awareness-raising sessions for local players involved in sustainable mobility. These training courses may cover subjects such as urban planning that encourages active modes of transport, the management of public transport networks, road safety or the use of new technologies in mobility. They help to build the skills of local players and disseminate best practice.
Sharing best practice
The State encourages the sharing of best practice between local authorities, so that they can draw inspiration from successful initiatives and embark on a collaborative learning process. Various mechanisms have been put in place to achieve this:
-
Meetings and seminars: The State organises meetings, seminars and conferences dedicated to sustainable mobility, where local authorities can exchange experiences, present their projects and share lessons learned. These events encourage exchanges and collaboration between those involved in the transition to sustainable modes of transport.
-
Exchange networks: The government supports the creation of exchange networks between local authorities, where they can share best practices, discuss common challenges and find solutions together. These networks make it possible to establish lasting collaborations and pool knowledge.
-
Online platforms: Online platforms have been set up to facilitate the sharing of good practice and feedback. These platforms enable local authorities to share case studies, technical documents, methodological guides, videos and other resources, in order to stimulate learning and the dissemination of good practice.
