Local initiatives/practices in the field of urban densification: zooming in on the densification of residential fabric

Anastasia Touati, October 2015

This sub-dossier takes a closer look at the different forms of densification by analysing five case studies.

‘Soft’ densification, on the one hand, is implemented by dividing lots (Magny-le-Hameaux), building secondary suites (Guelph), restructuring large manors (Trappes), etc. ‘Hard’ densification, on the other hand, aims to increase the economic attractiveness of the city (Noisy-le-Grand) or to create a compact urban centre (Markham).
