Gergely Olt
PhD candidate at the ELTE University School of Sociology and currently employed in the ‘young researcher’ fellowship programme at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Gergely co-authored several papers and a book about the transformation of the inner city of Budapest, and is currently working on his PhD thesis on the evolution of an entertainment neighbourhood in the inner city of Budapest. The main question of the thesis is how global forces and the local post-socialist context interact. Gergely’s broader fields of interests are socio-spatial inequalities and their effects on people’s lives, questions of housing and, recently, grasping the persistent peculiarities of post-socialist cities and societies compared to ‘Western’ examples.
